Matariki

Matariki is a clusters of stars or constellations there are 7 stars viable to the naked eye but there are 7 hundreds stars that are not. Matariki 

When is matariki ?

The date of Matariki changes year after year. It usually falls on the last few days of May and June

How is matariki celebrated ?
Matariki Is getting more popular in schools, community organizers and local councils. Matariki is celebrated in many different ways. Because matariki is the best time for new harvest,  plants and trees they are planted around the time of matariki. Matariki is also a good time to learn about the land and our whakapapa ( Ancestry)

What does matariki mean ?
Matariki has 2 different meanings. Both refereeing to a constellation of stars.
mata riki means tiny eye but mata ariki means eye of god

Why do we celebrate matariki ?
Today Matariki means celebrating the unique place where we live and giving respect to the land we live on.
